Welcome to the Sophia Wisdom School
The Sophia Wisdom School is an online school for students of Christian Mysticism.
What is Christian Mysticism? Every major world religion has a mystical branch. Islam's mystical branch is called Sufism. Buddhism's mystical branch is called Zen. Judaism's mystical branch is called Kabbalah or Hasidism. And in Christianity we simply call it Christian Mysticism. Mystics of all religions have the same goal: to come into a direct experience of the God at the center of their beings. Mystics are not so interested in dogma and care more to find out from their own experience who God is and what God is like. The entire practice of the mystic is to achieve ever-deeper connection with that God within and once connected to enter into a state of union.
Christian Mysticism has been practiced ever since Jesus Christ Himself began it. Throughout the ages a person would, now and again, seem to spontaneously enter into a deeper experience of God than those around them. We have stories of saints throughout time who would be so caught up in states of ecstatic union with God or Jesus or Mary that they would sometimes even levitate. Those incidents tell us very little of what was occurring within the person, other than that he or she was most certainly in a very altered and ecstatic state of consciousness.
The writings of some of the great Christian mystics are much more helpful. One of the greatest mystics ever was St. John of the Cross; another was Theresa of Avila. Both of them have wonderful writings in which they try to describe their experiences of God and what they have learned from being in God's Presence.
In the Sophia Wisdom School, we offer to students the opportunity to train under the direction and supervision of true Christian Masters of the mystical path.
Our intention is to bring each student into a direct experience of God and a connection with God that is so deep and real that he or she can never doubt it again. We use time-honored methods of combinations of study, spiritual exercises and devotional practices. When students attend online classes, begin individual instruction, and start doing practices at home, it is not very long before they begin to have experiences that change their lives. They can begin to heal from the wounds of the past and grow into their full potential as spiritual beings in physical bodies.
